This 4-pin thermostat socket is required for removing and installing the thermostat for the main engine coolant circuit on a wide range of VAG petrol and diesel engines.

The thermostat is located beneath the intake manifold under a cover mounted on the water pump. The special 4-pin design ensures secure engagement with the thermostat housing during service.

Operation

The thermostat uses a standard right-hand thread:

Turn counterclockwise to remove.
Turn clockwise to install and lock.

The thermostat housing contains an internal stop. Do not overtighten the thermostat regulator.

The tool is driven using a 3/8" square drive.

Installation Notes

During installation:

Ensure that the thermostat locating pin is correctly seated in the guide within the thermostat housing.
Replacing the thermostat for the small coolant circuit requires removal of the water pump.
According to the manufacturer, the timing belt should always be replaced whenever the water pump is replaced.

Reference Tightening Torques

(Reference vehicle: Audi A1 (8X) 1.4 TFSI, 125 HP, Engine Code CZCA)

Water pump belt camshaft sprocket bolt: 20 Nm + 90°
Timing belt cover: 8 Nm
Thermostat housing to coolant pump: 7 Nm
Thermostat cover to thermostat housing: 7 Nm
