BMW / Mini Engine Timing Tool Kit – B36, B38, B46, B48, B58

Specialized tool kit for setting and checking camshaft and crankshaft timing on BMW and Mini engines.

Functionality

This kit enables precise positioning of camshafts and crankshaft during timing service and engine repair.

It supports full timing procedures including:

• Camshaft alignment
• Crankshaft locking
• Timing chain pre-tensioning
• Engine rotation and positioning

Important Notes

• Camshaft markings must face upward (risk of incorrect positioning)
• Timing chain is located at the rear of the engine

Crankshaft Locking Pin Insertion Depth

• Manual transmission: max. 56 mm insertion depth
• Automatic transmission: max. 66 mm insertion depth
  → Marking the pin is recommended to avoid incorrect positioning

Injector Handling Requirements

• Injector removal is required for timing procedure
• Maximum torque load: 6 Nm (exceeding may damage injector)
• Injector seals must always be replaced during installation
• Use dedicated tool 106398 for seal replacement

The included tools support various operations:

• Camshaft adjustment and locking
• Crankshaft positioning and locking
• Chain pre-tensioning
• Actuator release for camshaft adjustment system
• Engine rotation via crankshaft
