BMW N13 / N18 Engine Timing Tool Kit

Professional tool kit designed for accurate adjustment and verification of engine timing on BMW petrol engines.

Compatible engine codes:
N13, N18

Functionality

This kit enables precise alignment of camshafts and crankshaft during timing chain service and engine repair procedures.

The camshaft adjusters can be freely positioned and do not require locking, simplifying the setup process.

Timing Chain Pre-Tension & Inspection

The timing chain must be pre-tensioned using the included tensioning tool according to manufacturer specification:

• Required torque: 0.6 Nm (as per BMW guidelines)

Using the camshaft alignment tool (placed on intake and exhaust camshafts without fastening) in combination with a feeler gauge allows pre-diagnosis of timing chain wear:

• Exhaust camshaft bridge:
  Measure gap between camshaft bridge and valve cover surface
  ✔ Acceptable value: < 1.6 mm
• Intake camshaft bridge:
  Measure gap between exhaust and intake bridge connection bore
  ✔ Acceptable value: < 3.0 mm

This enables early detection of timing chain elongation before full disassembly.

Crankshaft Locking Compatibility

Compatible with crankshaft locking tool:

• BMW 119280 (3-hole hub version)
  Suitable for engines: EP6, N12, N13, N14, N16, N18, N40, N42, N45, N46, N52

For multi-hole hub applications, use alternative tool (not included).
