This professional engine timing tool kit is designed for BMW N62 and N73 petrol engines.

It is used for setting Top Dead Center (TDC) timing and performing accurate valve timing adjustments during engine repair and maintenance procedures.

The kit is suitable for complex engine work including timing chain replacement and cylinder head service on V8 and V12 engines.


Important Notes

When the engine is removed:

  • The continuous water pipe (in driving direction) must be driven out using a brass or plastic drift (BMW 231040)
  • Both cylinder heads must be removed (procedure differs before/after 10.03)
  • Both oil pan sections must be removed

For auxiliary work:

  • For serpentine belt removal/installation, use locking pin 101259
  • For A/C elastic belt service, use tool 106671 (as 641040)

Flywheel removal:

  • Use socket 115555 (bolts are concealed)
  • For locking, use tool 16005 (as 119260)

Timing chain service:

  • Manufacturer requires replacement of the chain sprocket (shrink-fitted on shaft)
  • For removal, use puller 106651 (alternative to 112000, 118300)
  • Do not heat above 150°C during installation

Assemble all tools as shown above and tighten the crankshaft pulley flange bolt using the specified angle of rotation (refer to service documentation).

To loosen the crankshaft pulley flange bolt, tools 5, 7, and 8 are required.


Install the tools for setting the intake camshaft.

Install the tools for setting the exhaust camshaft.
