Dual Clutch Cover Installation Tool Set for Ford / Volvo MPS6 6DCT450 Transmissions

Special service tool set designed for installation and removal of the clutch cover and sealing ring on Ford and Volvo vehicles equipped with MPS6 / 6DCT450 dual clutch transmissions. The tools ensure precise installation and proper sealing of the clutch cover during transmission repair procedures.

Used as Ford 308-764 / 308-783 and Volvo 9997388 / 9997383.

Application Information

The dual clutch assembly on MPS6 / 6DCT450 transmissions is located beneath a sealing cover which must maintain perfect internal and external sealing. All sealing surfaces must be carefully cleaned before installation.

During service procedures:

• Drain transmission oil and measure removed oil quantity
• Refill gearbox oil gradually in 250 ml intervals
• Ensure gearbox is in engine TDC position during removal and installation
• Replace the 3 retaining brackets securing the clutch cover
• Verify gearbox neutral position before clutch removal
• Apply sealing compound correctly to the center sealing ring
• Install the clutch cover evenly using the supplied installation tools
• Ensure clutch claws are positioned correctly before gearbox reinstallation

Note:

The dual clutch of the MPS6 / 6DCT450 transmission, installed in Ford or Volvo models, is located beneath a cover. This cover must seal perfectly both internally and externally. Ensure maximum cleanliness and clean all sealing surfaces using brake cleaner or similar cleaning agents.

Application:

• Drain the transmission oil and measure the removed oil quantity (dual-chamber transmission, therefore equipped with 2 drain plugs, identical oil, filled from above, inspection plug located on the passenger side of the differential housing, compare drain and refill quantities).
• During refilling, ensure that the transmission oil is added in 250 ml increments through the filler opening until transmission oil begins to flow out of the inspection hole again. Wait until the continuous flow changes to individual drops.
• Remove the transmission (the transmission must be removed with the engine at TDC position).
• The clutch cover is secured with 3 retaining brackets. These must be replaced. The cover and sealing ring can be removed using a pry lever and screwdriver.
• Place the transmission in neutral position using the lever and verify via the two removed ball detent screws using a screwdriver.
• The clutch package can now be removed and installed using special tool Art. No. 118250 (equivalent to Ford 308-763, Volvo 9997435).
• The center sealing ring must first be inserted into the clutch cover using sealing compound (sealing cord facing outward toward the cover). Remove excess sealing compound.
• Install the cover together with the sealing ring. Lightly coat the sealing surface with the special transmission oil.
• Insert the installation tool for the inner sealing ring into the cover/sealing ring and position the cover.
• Using the installation tool for the clutch cover, press the cover evenly downward (one turn at a time, hand-tight only).
• Remove the special tools.
• Reinstall the transmission with the engine at TDC position.
• Before installation, the clutch pawls must be moved into the installation position. This is achieved when both tabs of the pawl rest against the left stop of the respective segment (approximately at the 11 o’clock position).
• The pawl locks into place during reinstallation.
