On many Ford models, the ECU connector is secured with a metal shear bolt. Drilling this bolt freehand can damage the control unit or electrical connector.
The dedicated guide sleeve keeps the drill correctly positioned, allowing the shear bolt to be drilled out accurately before removing the ECU connector.
