This kit is designed for repairing damaged glow plug mounting threads in the cylinder head.
Slightly damaged original threads can be restored using the appropriate thread chaser.
If the thread is severely damaged, the original bore can be reamed and tapped to accommodate a suitable thread insert.
Instructions for Use
The tools for the five thread sizes are identified in the illustration by the letters A to E. The components required for each operation are additionally marked with corresponding numbers.
The repair procedure is generally the same for all included thread sizes.
For Slightly Damaged Threads
Re-cut and restore the original thread using the appropriate thread chaser.
For Severely Damaged Threads
- Ream out the damaged original thread using the appropriate reamer.
- Use the matching tap to create a new internal thread for the selected thread insert. The tap must correspond to the external thread of the insert.
- Slide the installation sleeve onto the appropriate installation bolt and screw on a thread insert of the required length.
- Use the installation tool to screw the thread insert into the newly cut internal thread and tighten it lightly.
- Remove the installation bolt and sleeve.
Important Note
We recommend securing the thread insert in the newly cut internal thread with a suitable thread-locking compound. This helps prevent the insert from unscrewing when the glow plug is removed later.
