Professional measuring tool designed for maintenance and repair procedures on timing belt-driven engines without integrated tension indicators.

Many vehicle manufacturers specify timing belt tension values only for their dedicated factory measuring tools. This universal timing belt tension tester allows mechanics to accurately measure and adjust timing belt tension during service procedures.

The measuring device operates according to standardized timing belt tension specifications.

Precise Timing Belt Tension Measurement

The timing belt tension tester is designed for timing belts with a maximum width of:

  • 30 mm

The required pressure force varies depending on timing belt thickness.

Before measurement, the appropriate calibration head must be selected and installed using the included timing belt thickness gauge.

The calibration process includes measurement over the belt teeth to ensure accurate setup.

Once installed on the timing belt, the tension can be checked using the markings on the tension plunger.

Calibration Information

A calibration plate is included in the set.

It is recommended to periodically verify:

  • measurement accuracy
  • calibration precision
  • proper tool operation

especially after repeated workshop use.

Workshop Applications

Suitable for:

  • Timing belt tension measurement
  • Timing belt adjustment
  • Engine timing service procedures
  • Timing belt maintenance
  • Engine repair and maintenance work

Suitable for professional automotive workshop environments.

Contents Included

  • 1 x Timing belt tension tester main unit
  • 1 x Calibration plate
  • 1 x Timing belt thickness measuring gauge
  • 6 x Calibration heads
  • 1 x Foam insert

Technical Advantages

  • Target/actual tension display
  • Universal workshop application
  • Accurate timing belt tension adjustment
  • Interchangeable calibration heads
  • Suitable for various timing belt thicknesses
  • Professional workshop-grade construction

This tool set is designed for measuring timing belt thickness and provides a simple, accurate, and effective method for adjusting timing belt tension based on the measured belt thickness.

Suitable for timing belts with a width of up to 30 mm.

Measuring Timing Belt Thickness

Determine the timing belt thickness using the timing belt thickness gauge (1).

The correct slot for the timing belt is the narrowest slot (lowest value) into which the timing belt fits.

Preparation

  1. Screw the appropriately numbered calibration head into the piston of the tension tester (9).
  2. Check that the piston of the tension tester (9) moves freely and smoothly.
  3. Position the tension tester on the timing belt in the location recommended by the engine manufacturer for tension testing.
  4. Ensure that the piston is facing the smooth side of the timing belt.

New Timing Belt

A new timing belt should be tensioned so that only the upper edge of the upper groove is visible.

Used Timing Belt

  • For a timing belt already in service, the tension tester (9) should indicate a reading between the upper and lower grooves.
  • If the reading is at or below the lower edge of the lower groove, the timing belt should be replaced.
  • Always follow the timing belt replacement intervals recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.

Testing the Tension Tester

Regularly check that the tension tester provides accurate readings.

Proceed as follows:

  1. Install the calibration head (7) onto the piston of the tension tester.
  2. Insert the test plate (2) into the tension tester (9), ensuring that the calibration head (7) is positioned in the central recess of the test plate (2).
  3. The tension tester should display a reading up to the lower edge of the lower groove.
