This positioning tool is designed to correctly align the turbocharger and exhaust flange before final tightening on VAG 5-cylinder diesel engines. Proper alignment is critical to ensure sealing integrity and long-term reliability.
Prevents Leaks and Component Damage
Incorrect turbo alignment can lead to:
- Exhaust leaks
- Damaged gaskets
- Cracked flex pipes in the EGR system
Using this tool ensures proper positioning and prevents costly repairs.
Required for Correct Installation Procedure
To ensure proper installation, the following sequence must be followed:
- Lightly tighten all screw connections
- Install the alignment tool
- Tighten the 3 flange bolts hand-tight, then loosen by 180°
- Remove the alignment tool
- Tighten bolts evenly in stages (90° alternately), then torque to 30 Nm
- Final tightening +180°
