Installing the Bearing Unit
- Install the appropriate split shells for bearing diameters of 62 mm, 66 mm, or 72 mm.
- Slide the ball bearing and the matching pressure piece onto the spindle. The outer diameter of the pressure piece should be approximately the same as that of the wheel bearing housing.
- Insert the spindle, with the ball bearing and pressure piece installed, through the wheel hub from the rear side.
- Slide the new bearing-hub assembly, with the split shells and pressure bell installed, onto the spindle from the front side.
- Install the ball bearing and then hand-tighten the spindle nut to preload the wheel bearing-hub assembly.
- Check that all tool components are correctly seated and realign them if necessary.
- Turn the spindle nut clockwise using, for example, a ratcheting ring wrench while holding the spindle on the opposite side with a wrench to prevent it from turning.
- Draw the wheel bearing-hub assembly into the wheel bearing housing until the retaining tabs on the wheel bearing engage and lock into the designated groove.
