Cylinder Head Guide Pin Set for VAG, as 3450

Many VAG engines do not have locating sleeves or guide pins for aligning the cylinder head gasket with the engine block and cylinder head. This creates a risk of incorrect gasket positioning and damage during cylinder head installation.

This special tool set was developed to keep the cylinder head gasket correctly aligned throughout the installation process. The guide pins position the gasket and cylinder head accurately on the engine block, while the included removal tools allow the pins to be extracted after the cylinder head has been secured.

Suitable For

Suitable for Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and Škoda vehicles. The set can also be used universally on engines and vehicles from other manufacturers with compatible thread dimensions.

Application

1. Before inserting a guide pin into the engine block, compare its thread with the thread of the cylinder head bolt.
2. Hold the two threads against each other. If their thread flanks mesh correctly, they have the same pitch and the correct guide pin has been selected. If the pitches differ, the thread flanks will not mesh.
3. Insert the selected guide pins into the internal cylinder head bolt threads in the engine block.
4. Position the cylinder head gasket on the sealing surface of the engine block.
5. Carefully place the cylinder head onto the engine block using the guide pins for alignment.
6. Install at least two cylinder head bolts and tighten them lightly to secure the cylinder head in position.
7. Select the appropriate guide-pin removal tool according to the available installation space. The removal tools have an M6 left-hand thread that screws into the top of the guide pins.
8. Loosen the guide pins with the removal tool and pull them out through the cylinder head.
