Camshaft Locking & Timing Chain Setting Tool for Ford 1.5 EcoBoost (from 2017)

This camshaft locking and adjustment tool is specifically designed for setting the timing on Ford 1.5L EcoBoost 3-cylinder engines (from 2017 onwards).

It is used during timing chain service to ensure precise alignment of camshaft and timing components.

Function

The timing chain features marked links and sprockets, which must align correctly during installation.

Unlike other systems, the top dead center (TDC) position is determined only via the crankshaft markings — no crankshaft locking pin is used.

This tool is mounted on the intake camshaft and serves as the reference point for correct timing alignment.

Additional Functionality

The tool can also be adapted for use on the exhaust camshaft when working on camshaft adjusters.

It acts as a counter-holding tool for both camshaft sprockets.

The alignment between camshaft and adjuster is defined by a mechanical slot.

Service Procedure Notes

• Remove auxiliary belt and tensioner (48 Nm)
• Remove starter motor to block crankshaft
• Crankshaft central bolt must be replaced
  • Tightening: 140 Nm → loosen 90° → 100 Nm + 115°
• Remove vibration damper and crankshaft seal
• Remove alternator
• Remove front cover

The crankshaft must remain locked at the starter ring gear until full reassembly is completed.
