Injection Pump Timing Adjustment

Checking / Adjusting the Injection Timing

  • The cold start fast-idle regulator must not be activated.

  • The engine must be positioned at TDC (Top Dead Center) for cylinder 1 (alignment mark on flywheel and bell housing).

  • Screw in the dial gauge holder and dial gauge with probe installed (approx. 2.5 mm preload) in place of the sealing screw on the injection pump.

  • Slowly rotate the crankshaft opposite the engine rotation direction until the dial gauge needle stops moving.

  • Reset the dial gauge to zero.

  • Rotate the crankshaft in the normal engine rotation direction until the TDC mark aligns.

  • The dial gauge should now show the specified lift value for the engine.

  • If the value is incorrect, loosen the mounting bolts and rotate the injection pump to adjust the timing.

  • After removing the dial gauge holder and gauge, the sealing washer on the sealing screw must be replaced.
